Here you will find  short stories that I will list from time to time.

Halfway to Anywhere

“Kylie,” I groaned impatiently. “Hurry,” I glanced out the bay window, staring into the darkness of the circle driveway. I knew her parents would be home soon and I wanted to be gone before they returned. “Kylie, you can’t pack everything in the house. Let’s go.”’

“Calm down, De, I’m almost done.” Kylie flashed me a glare as she stuffed even more clothes into her already overflowing suitcase. I found myself wondering how on earth it was even going to close.

“Well, hurry, if your parents catch me here.” My voice trailed off as I bit my lower lip. The last time her parents had seen me was when they caught the two of us kissing in her bedroom. From that moment on, they banned me from ever returning to their home or seeing her. However, there was no way a little thing like that would have stopped us from seeing each other. Still, sneaking around was torture. We were constantly forced into hiding when we were in public together.

My eyes grew wide when I saw the glare of approaching headlights. “Shit, Kylie, your parents just pulled in the driveway!”

“What? They weren’t supposed to be home for two more hours?” Kylie rushed over to the window and peered outside, cursing when she too saw the white Chrysler. “Damn it. You have to hide, baby.” She looked at me with her pleading brown eyes.

“Hide? Where the hell am I going to hide?”  I frantically glanced around her room in search of a place to seek refuge. “There’s no way I’ll fit under your bed.”

“Get in the closet.” She pushed my butt, shoving me towards the closet.

“This gives new meaning to being in the closet,” I groaned.

Kylie giggled, covering my lips with her finger. “Shh!” She tossed the suitcase inside with me and slammed the door closed. I watched through a tiny crack in the wood as she flipped off her light and hurriedly climbed into bed.

“Darling,” a woman’s voice said as Kylie’s door opened. I held my breath. “Are you still awake?”

“Mom, you’re home early.” Kylie tried to sound groggy as she pretended to yawn. “Barely,” she mumbled. “I wasn’t feeling too well, so I thought I’d get some sleep.”

“Oh, sweetie, are you okay?” I heard her mother’s voice say as she stepped into the room, flipping on the light beside of Kylie’s bed.

“Yeah, mom,” she said. “I think I just needed some extra sleep is all.”

I could see Kylie’s faint smile with the dim light, which caused my heart to quicken.

“Okay, well, if you’re okay we’re going to go to dinner now. Your dad forgot the credit card, can you believe that?” Her mother rolled her eyes, laughing as she kissed Kylie’s forehead. “Goodnight, darling,” her mother said before leaving the room.

Kylie and I both remained silent until we heard the car start back up outside and drive off into the distance. Kylie threw off her covers and rushed to the closet, opening it as she pulled me into her arms. “I am so sorry, my love.” She brushed a strand of fallen hair away from my cheek, planting a soft kiss on my lips.

“It’s okay, babe.” I smiled, running my fingers through her wavy blond hair. “Now finish packing so we can go. I can’t wait to get away from here.” I grinned, kissing her deeply as my hand slipped down to her butt and gave it a soft squeeze.

“Mm, me either, and then I can ravish you.” She grinned, flashing me that dazzling smile that I grew to love.

Yes, I loved Kylie. She was my heart, my soul, everything I had ever dreamed of. I was sick of hiding our love. I was sick of our parents. I was sick of this town. We made plans weeks ago to run away together and I continued to grow increasingly anxious.  My suitcases were already packed and in the trunk of her Grand Prix. All left to do was to toss in her belongings and then we would be free.

I giggled as she plopped her butt down on her suitcase, trying to get it to zip. I had to admit, she looked adorable the way she was bouncing up and down on the bursting suitcase. I walked over and leaned down to help her zip the leather case. She crammed some more items in her duffel bag before she grinned. “Okay, now I’m ready,” she stated triumphantly.

“Great, let’s go!” I grabbed one of her bags, helping her to carry them outside as I laughed. “Oh my god, hon, I think you packed your entire room in this suitcase.”

“I tried,” she said with a laugh. Kylie popped open her trunk and we threw the rest of her belongings inside. I smiled as she slammed the trunk shut and turned to me, taking my hands. “Are we really doing this?”

“We’re really doing this.” I said with a grin. “I have no idea where we’re going. I don’t even care. Anywhere but here is perfect.” I pulled her close to me, embracing her as we reveled in the most passionate kiss we’d ever shared. I knew this was the beginning of our new life. Maybe it wasn’t going to be easy, but it was what we both wanted, and the only way we could be free to love.

“Anywhere,” Kylie said with a sigh. “I like the sounds of that. De, there’s something I need to ask you before we go.” She grinned, taking my hand as she kneeled down on the ground in front of me and rubbed the backside of my fingers. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when she produced a small black box in front of me. She opened it, revealing a glittering diamond ring. I gasped when she removed it and held it up towards me. The moonlight shone down upon us, giving us just enough light to see one another. “Deangela Ann Matheson, I love you with every beat of my heart. You are my sunshine, my night sky, my entire world. I know things are not going to be easy for us, but I don’t care as long as you’re by my side. Marry me, darling.”

“Oh, Kylie,” my eyes filled with tears as I gazed into her chocolate stare, full of warmth, and most importantly, love for me. I had never felt happier in my life than in this very moment, and I knew what my answer was. “Oh, Kylie, yes my love!”  I squealed when she slipped the ring onto my finger. I wrapped both arms around her neck, squealing yet again. “I love you so much.” I planted ecstatic kisses all over her face, causing her to squeal with delight.

“What do you say we blow this hell hole?” She asked, grinning as she kissed my hand.

“I say, let’s put the pedal to the metal and burn rubber!” Squealing again, I hugged her tight and planted a kiss on her luscious red lips.

That was the last time we would ever see our parents, or the town we grew up in. We were ready to start our new life together, anywhere but here. As we pulled onto the highway the soft sounds of one of our favorite songs filled the car, causing us both to smile as we looked at each other and softly kissed.
